I really liked the video above. I would like to know if there is any way to overcome the problem of riding at a constant speed (at a constant voltage… im guessing there’s not). And how much power do i end up generating?? Is it efficient enough to be implemented in big gyms where a stationary cycle keeps running??

supervaithi July 21, 2011 at 2:56 am

Hey. I’m a third year undergraduate doing my Electrical and Electronics Engineering in India. I’ve been thinking a lot about finding a way to generate electricity from things that are already rotating. For example a ceiling fan.. my professor said that i would merely be giving more power as input and taking the same extra power as output. Now i’ve been thinking about charging a battery with the help of cycles in a gym.

can i use a car alternator

LtSurge659 July 21, 2011 at 4:58 am

To think that this concept could be used to provide electrical power to a Gold’s Gym through fat people pedaling constantly.

hey i liked this vid very much and i am gona make same to my school project but it seems to be very much costy and a bit difficult so can you please suggest me some thing like this ? please !

where did you get your generator at with the sprockets

I really appreciate this experiment. I have been playing with the idea of building a pedal generator to charge a battery that would power a motor to propel a bicycle. My thinking is that it would be a hybrid electric bike that regenerates via human power. Not expecting unlimited range but rather increased range over battery power alone. I have a 15 mile one way commute with lots of hills and a bad back so a recumbent trike may allow me to ditch the truck on fair weather days. Great vid. Thanks.

Very good video :) Thanks a lot :) Some one should show this to those people who want to connect HHO generators to car’s alterrnator and increase their mileage ;D

Do you have plans for or a kit that you can buy somewhere for for this? How would this work charging a 12v battery?

a good option if you want to exercise!

Can you tell us the make and model number for your motor?

Hey , great job looks like y’all are having fun producing power

Hey great vid, do you know is their any way of harnessing power from weight lifting movements, is their a way to have variable resistance with a generator i.e. like a weights machine where you set the weight and do your reps and sets. If their was a way to harness this power along with power generating bikes a power generating gym would be possible, just think of all the energy spent by people in gyms

draconpost July 21, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Children in scools should generate power by doing this while sitting – free energy for everyone, the kids have excersise, and its ecological. Also people in prisons should generate energy instead of doing nothing.

the power of the sun in the palm of my hand

pilzvergifter July 21, 2011 at 2:01 pm

@Peterwhitlock see, a stirling produces either hot or cold air, depending on the direction the wheel goes. so it would be possible to cool down a freezer while producing energy. dont ask me why we are stupid enough to do it the other way round.

Measonz July 21, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Cool video….u rocks man

flabazoid July 21, 2011 at 2:43 pm

dude you can shut the sun off? cool!!!!!!

Peterwhitlock July 21, 2011 at 2:51 pm

way too small and way under powered…. and we need silent ones as possible.
now we need power to run a freezer and air conditioner for say 2 BILLION HOMES!
and MORE!
so I think it be wise to try to setup such things where the lens does not move “much”, and power is created on scales we can use!
Most of the need of power on the planet goes to heat or COOL homes and devices.
free heat to make cold is a valuable thing!

indibry July 21, 2011 at 3:14 pm

Watch your electric meter go backwards after installing your wind turbine and solar array! Net Metering will help reduce your bill. Solar only works 8 hours a day. Wind is operable 24 hours a day. Go to to sovdepot dot com We have all your inverters, charge controllers, wind turbine, and solar array needs.

gregayo July 21, 2011 at 3:37 pm

with sunlight it can be free 150Liters of hot water everyday with thermal solar panels and very cheap to set up

KK4BPS July 21, 2011 at 3:52 pm

So you could theoretically, set up several Stirling engines and move between them with one mirror/lens? Interesting. I’d never head of a Stirling engine before, I wish I had. Going to watch some more vids and do some more research, but this looks very interesting indeed.

5enor1ta July 21, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Hey injected a nos in that cylinder

shartne July 21, 2011 at 4:23 pm

can you show us if that can turn a small generator to generate some electricity to charge a 12 volt battery?

mangyscavenger July 21, 2011 at 4:27 pm

What if you used a long pipe, with a cap at one end & a cylinder/piston at the other & put that pipe in a parabolic trough? Would the extra, heated air volume produce more power?
What if you set up several nozzles down the pipe to inject water mist directly into the hot pipe on the piston’s back stroke?

mangyscavenger July 21, 2011 at 5:08 pm

What would happen if you injected a small shot of water mist directly into the heat chamber through a small nozzle tapped into the side of the chamber? Flash steam?
Wouldn’t flash steam create more pressure? Wouldn’t more pressure give more horse power?

VaccinesKillBabies July 21, 2011 at 5:44 pm

ideal for the sunny deserts, free electricity for the africa arabs etc
combination of this with wind power plants would be a win win

titytit July 21, 2011 at 6:05 pm

good in theory but it doesnt hold a candle to magnetic motors and nuclear fusion

what would happen if you put a dildo at the end of it????

wertacus July 21, 2011 at 8:03 pm

hit it with a blow torch

Xandergy July 21, 2011 at 8:35 pm

@silverpizza100 You sir, are the idiot. It is a Stirling engine. Named after its inventor Robert Stirling.

divinenuker July 21, 2011 at 9:23 pm

@JacobH420 The working fluid is just hot air inside the cylinder of the piston assembly. The fresnel lens concentrates solar energy on a focal point on the aluminum cylinder encased with the metal casing. Once the initial rotation is applied on the fly wheel. The piston compresses the hot air and then the whole reciprocating piston motion starts. So to answer your question it doesn’t need a air fuel mixture. Just air is fine.

simonsaladcream July 21, 2011 at 9:58 pm

@AndryhaCh A small trickle of water onto linen around the cold end of the cylinder would provide evaporative cooling without the need to compress the freon in a vapour cycle system. Solar power meets water power!

bjeanfreau July 21, 2011 at 10:09 pm

What is the bottom line? Given the area of the fresnel lens…..can you generate more watts from it using a mechanical to electrical system vs the most efficient solar cell? Then there is the cost…Can you get more watts per dollar than an efficient solar cell than you can using a sterling or steam driven generator?
