Innowattech Breakthrough in Alternative Energy From Road Traffic

by Lee on August 3, 2011

An Israeli company, Innowattech Ltd., in cooperation with Israel National Roads Company, has recently tested the IPEG™ (Innowattech Piezoelectric Generator) system in the first of its kind pilot project along a ten-meter stretch of highway in Israel. The technology developed by Innowattech in association with Technion IIT (Israel Institute of Technology) is based on piezoelectric materials that enable conversion of mechanical energy exerted by the weight of passing vehicles into electrical energy. One kilometer of Innowattech’s generators along a single lane is capable of producing an average of 200 KWh per hour, sufficient electricity to provide for the average consumption in 200-300 households provided approximately 600 heavy trucks or buses travel through the interval per hour on average. The harvested electricity may be supplied to various road-side applications, such as traffic lights, billboards, enforcement cameras, signs, etc., as well as transferred into the electric grid. The technology may also be used for road data collection (Smart Road). The technology does not increase the vehicles’ fuel intake or affect the road infrastructure. It is not affected by weather conditions and allows electricity to be harvested near the end consumer. Innowattech has also developed the technology for harvesting energy from movement of trains, airplanes and pedestrians, to be tested within months to come. @PerfectDecalibration the law of conservation of energy…? Think of running across the beach in soft sand vs running on a hard surface… it takes more energy to run in sand just as it takes more energy to roll a car across those Piezoelectrics… these generators can be used to tax the people like a toll road sucking their gasoline to make electricity.

@CoinDevil are you retarded?

jasondegraff44 August 3, 2011 at 3:13 pm

So a couple things to keep in mind here
If you don’t understand the the piezoelectric effeviuct read up because it is king here.
Obviously pads are calibrated to harvest maxium voltage from super presure and small movement ie passing car not a lot of height movment but a ton of pressure per square inch.
Lastly you could use the same laws in the piezoelectric effect in quartz based pads on the bottom of a vehicle moving between the earths magnetic fields Leedskalnin IS MY GOD GOD ISNt Real

The big Oil corporations are trying their best to stop free energy ideas from spreading to common ppl.
We need to put an end to this corruption ,start generating your own electricity now.

The question is, what’s the payback time? It looks like it was very expensive to install.

@pliskin619 what law of physics do you see getting violated?

PerfectDecalibration August 3, 2011 at 4:27 pm

Great jobb.. keep on testing and we are probably on the verge of a new application to reality.

its free in the sense that, the vehicle passing by is already assumed and wasted and harvested.
they were not claiming that the thing just powers itself under the road.

i challenge you to try and deduce effeciency loss, rofl.
that asphalt looked pretty fkn flat to me.
yawnfail.

pliskin619 August 3, 2011 at 5:30 pm

converge this and many other electrical harvesting systems ….i smell a law of physics getting violated…

@12CIFOM – Like the USA.

spyN09 August 3, 2011 at 6:07 pm

@CoinDevil – And to that part with slowing down. That’s not true. It doesn’t have any affect on your fuel economy. ;)

spyN09 August 3, 2011 at 6:23 pm

@CoinDevil – It’s wasted energy that passes through the tires and beyond into the ground. Yes, it’s correct that the energy comes from the engine running on the gas, however, the energy in which is powering the motion of the viechle is, as I said, passing by into the ground afterwads. They’re abusing that with their generators which contains piezomaterials. When a piezomaterial experience pressure it generates electricity – that’s what they do mainly. So no, they are actually telling the truth.

CoinDevil August 3, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Sorry but they’re not being completely honest in the description.

The energy is being stolen directly from your gas tank. There is no free lunch where energy is concerned.

Windmills at the side of the expressway do the same thing. Slow you down and steal fuel from your tank.

A very professional video, but they should publish the results of their experimental runs. How much energy did they actually harvest?

great idea.

Great!!!

the future…

very cool. the future is around every corner. lead follow or step aside.

Sell it to countries who have mega traffic.
